Tips From The Pros Our enrichment classes will allow students to engage in small-group discussions and improve reading, writing, and math skills with world-class instructors. I wrote this essay when applying for college last year, but I ended up not submitting it to any of the schools I applied to. I was worried that colleges would see me as unstable or think that the essay was trying to excuse any of my shortcomings, or just that it would cast me in a negative light. Initial residency classification is determined by the Office of Admissions after applicants have been admitted to the university. All applicants are considered non-Florida residents until they provide proof otherwise. Plagiarism is always wrong, and schools are getting better at detecting it. The admissions committee is looking to learn about youâ€"your achievements, your obstacles, your goals, your passions, your personality, your values, and your character. If you are asked to write about an influential person, the college wants to know his or her influence on you. Whatever topic you choose to center your essay around, make sure you shine through. However, my biggest reason for keeping it to myself was that I still have a lot of shame about my mental illness. Now, more than a year after applying to college, I really regret not using it because I think it represents me and what I have been through very accurately. The selection process is very competitive and space is limited in each incoming class. Freshmen do not need to submit supplemental applications; applications are due in the sophomore year or when program prerequisite requirements have been completed. Failure to provide all relevant information and required documentation in a timely manner could result in a non-Florida resident classification for tuition purposes.
